a healthy bar recipe

This morning I tried a new bar recipe that all the kids like :-) My sweet tooth told me this recipe needs to be sweeter, but that's a good thing as I can bake these and keep the kids happy and I won't be tempted to eat them at all! Of course, the other cup of chocolate chips left in the bag could be a temptation for me, but they could always be spread on the top of the bars when they are done baking as a light thin frosting.

PB - Banana - Crispy Bars

1 1/2 cups unbleached all purpose flour
1/2 cup whole-wheat pastry flour
1/2 cup wheat germ
1/8 tsp. salt
1 cup Rice Krispies cereal
2 very ripe bananas, mashed
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup oil
1 egg
2 tsp. vanilla
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 9 x 13 inch pan with cooking oil spray. In a mixing bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, pastry flour, wheat germ, and salt. Stir in cereal. In a separate bowl mix together bananas, both sugars, peanut butter, oil, egg, and vanilla. Pour this mixture over the flour mixture and stir just until blended. Stir in the chocolate chips. Spread the batter into the pan and bake for about 30 minutes (or when a toothpick in the middle comes clean).

The recipe says this makes 24 bars, but the kids kept asking for a second one so it makes more sense to just cut them into 12 bars and say one per person.
