keep off!

Who needs a sign to keep people off a trampoline that the olders STILL have not put the protective netting up around? Typically a German shepherd is enough of a sign to say KEEP OFF! And the pooch likes to lay up there off and on throughout the day. Perhaps he thinks it is his other job when the kids aren't in the yard playing and needing his shepherding. After all, he does get paid in dog food and what could be better than that is his line of thinking?! Now, he may be protective if someone he didn't know approached the trampoline and wanted to jump on it. However, when his beloved children come and jump, he will either lay in the middle where he is now OR he'll get up, walk around with them bouncing all the way. He is also a vocal dog so you'll hear him talking while they are jumping (and I'm not even going to try to figure out the phonetics for you of what he says! LOL!)

Have you ever met a KEEP OFF kind of person? They just look mean and scowl at the world? Definitely unapproachable. Definitely protecting their territory which tends to be themselves. Could be a check out lady at the grocery store. Or a waitress. Or someone in the car next to you at the stop light. Or the person sitting a few rows behind you in church. They are the kind of people you'd like to take the smile out of your pocket and give it to them. Even then the smile may not work without getting to know them a bit first and hearing their life story. Everyone has a story. And everyone has a listening ear. Be that listening ear for someone who may not have any hope and has lost their smile in the process. For not only do you have a smile to share, but you have the hope found in Jesus Christ. He doesn't wear a KEEP OFF sign, but rather says, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." ~ Matthew 11:28 (NIV)

Keep kind words on your lips, share a smile, be a listening ear upon your garden path today!

Yay, I'll have to tell the kids I finally found a home for the pooch! LOL!

Just kidding....

Having always had labs or golden retrievers or a mix of those two breeds, it's been a new experience learning the ropes with a German shepherd. For years we'd drive past a neighbor's home where a German shepherd lived. The kids thought he was the coolest dog and nicknamed him "rock on dog" :-) So, when we saw German shepherd puppies in the paper, we took the plunge. Fortunately he's very handsome and loves us or he'd be ba-bye as it's been one thing or another for a year now.....
