the quieter summer

I forgot.

And my memory was jarred yesterday.

When I watched the Matthew West music video, I noticed that he was left handed. That's always something I tend to notice because we have four left handed children. And then it hit me. One of our left handed sons had lost his voice for an extended time several years ago.

I can't believe I forgot about that!

My memory has been trying to come up with the *when* did that happen? I could get all my old journals and calendars down out of the closet and go through them I suppose, but I guess that part isn't really that important.

So, here's the story. He lost his voice in the early spring. We thought that perhaps it was a case of laryngitis and waited for it to resolve. But it didn't, so we took him to our family doctor who thought it may be viral and it would resolve on its own. So, as the summer days continued to go by and he still didn't have his voice, our doctor referred us to a specialist who did various testing which didn't show anything specific as the cause. His next suggested step was to do a more invasive procedure which would require needles on his vocal cords to test nerves, etc. Listening to the procedure was enough to make a mother break out in a cold sweat!

The appointment was set for mid-September.

My heart was set on prayer. And more prayer as the date approached.

A week before he was scheduled to go in to have this procedure done, his voice began coming back. Slowly and faintly, but each day his voice grew stronger. We concluded that we could cancel the appointment and called the office of the specialist to let them know our son's voice had completely come back.

God's timing. Never too soon and never too late. Always perfect :-)
