weeping to joy

"Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds....." ~ James 1:2

This hot weather has been a trial for me.  I do not do well with heat.  I do not do well with humidity.  I do not do well with hot flashes.  Put them all together for an extended amount of time and you have one crabby mama.

We leave in an area where air conditioning is rare in homes because no one invests in something you hardly need here. So when this weather hits, out come all the fans with the best refuge place being basements where it tends to be cooler.  Even with that, there's still that feeling of "ugh" when even sitting still doing nothing produces masses of sweaty sticky bodies.

Then add the factor of having several days in a row "off" with hopes of accomplishing much on my "to do" list turning into several days in a row of accomplishing little with no energy to do much of anything.

Finally comes the great guilt of even complaining when parts of our country are much hotter than we are here.

:::sigh:::

Such was my mood when last evening an unexpected thunderstorm passed through our area.  It came with loud rumbles, crackling lightning, gusts of wind, and a downpour of hard rain.  Taking refuge downstairs with my family as we attempted watching some television with an antennae swaying in the wind not getting good reception, suddenly the sound of running water was heard.  Lots of running water. One of our basement window wells had filled with water which was running like a waterfall into that corner of the basement.   The laundry/toy area and the food pantry were getting drenched and our efforts seemed completely meaningless as we attempted to keep up with it.  Once it slowed down and the storm passed out of our area, we soaked up as much as we could moving loads of things into a dryer area of the basement and went to bed.

:::a really big sigh:::

"Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning." ~ Psalm 30:5b

Waking up early this morning we could immediately sense the cooler weather. My husband was out the door to do some work before it warmed up again (but hopefully it will warm up less than it has over the past week or so), and I slowly wandered downstairs to access the damage.  I slid the washer and dryer back into place since the floor was now dry there, cleaned through the laundry table that had been soaked, and moved the laundry baskets back into place.  Then I went into the food pantry and determined it was time to do a major cleaning in there.  I went through the shelves sorting through all the products on them and began the throwing out process.  There were boxes of various teas that had been on the shelf forever.  Lots of bags of different beans for soups that had been there forever.  Cans of this.  Cans of that.  All pushed to the back of the shelves with expiration dates long long expired.  The garbage bag overflowed into another garbage bag.  The food pantry is now cleaned out and it feels WONDERFUL!  Joy did come with the morning!

There is now a determination to finish cleaning that area of the basement.  The toys and books are overflowing as well with things that have long expired in being useful or worthy of playing with anymore.  Once in order there is not a doubt in my mind that there will be more joy to come.

Anything in your life you need to clean up?  Get in order? Address immediately?  Just do it!  It'll put a smile on your face, joy in your heart, and thankfulness in your spirit!

Off to get busy.....

Blessings,
Tammy ~@~
