choose to be inspired

"I am learning every day to allow the space where I am and where I want to be to inspire me and not terrify me." ~ Tracee Ellis Ross

Life is quite a journey. The older you get, the more you understand that there's a lot more to learn and continue to refine especially when you allow God to be the molder of your life.  Decisions made in the past play into your present, but you don't have to let them define your future.  It may mean walking through difficult territory as you address consequences of past decisions, but don't be afraid of taking a hard look at that.  Accept it for what it is, learn from it, and allow it to inspire you as you trust God to change you into who HE wants you to be.

Spring into new life!

getting down to nothing

Looking at the calendar and realizing this is the last Friday in May! How did that happen?  The month has flown by.

Now for the challenge of writing for five minutes on one word. Post it.  Link it up at Five Minute Friday.  Read the post before your own and be sure to leave a note of encouragement. Soooo, the word for this week is - NOTHING.  Ready!  Set!  GO!

Apparently going on the Scriptural principal that we bring nothing into the world and we cannot take anything out of the world, a son home from college for awhile before leaving on his summer internship is on a mission -  EMPTY THE HOUSE.  No small feat for any human considering this house has been part of our family since 1978.  No small feat especially considering 9 children have been raised (and some are still being raised) in this home while also homeschooling which tends to lead to more stuff.
(a look at the dumping of games)

Yet?  Yet he's picked a good time to begin this project.  Our house is emptying out as our children grow up.  Things that were necessary or needed are no longer as important.  Things that weren't necessary or needed are definitely serving no purpose.  And those sentimental things? Even they are losing their grip on me as I'm finding that a few special things are all I need to trigger a memory.

Besides, the older I get, the less I want to be bound by having to take care of lots of stuff.  There is freedom to be found in fewer possessions.  Of course, all my books may be another story……

This may be a post that will need updates on the other days of the week, eh?

anxiety reliever

"When I understand that everything happening to me is to make me more Christlike, it resolves a great deal of anxiety." ~ A.W. Tozer

Looking at flowers helps, too!

that kind of love

"I can't brag about my love for God because I fail Him daily.  But I can brag about His love for me because it never fails."  ~ Author Unknown

Don't miss that....His love for you NEVER fails.  He knows every single little detail about you - good, bad, and ugly - and yet His love never fails. NEVER!

always close

Hard to believe it's Friday already!  And a long weekend ahead, too.  Time to write for five minutes.  No editing.  Post it.  Link it at Five Minute Friday and be sure to visit the link before yours to leave a word of encouragement. The word for today is CLOSE.  Ready?  Set!  GO!

While sitting and pondering the word for the day that could be written about taking it in so many directions,  the computer on the desk next to mine is playing these words….“Oh no, you never let go, through the calm or through the storm” .  Guess God answered the direction, eh?

How close is God in your life?

He goes before you.

He stands behind you.

He is always by your side

He will never leave you.

Whom shall you fear?
I know our time with the Lord tends to greatly diminish when the waters of our life are calm.  Yet if we invest in quality time of study, prayer, and worship during the smooth waters they will be key in realizing all of the above during the storms.   The winds may howl, the boat may toss and turn, and thunder and lightning may shake you to the core; however, you will know in your heart that God is close.  No need to fear.

And you will be able to say, “still I will praise YOU!”

Wednesday, May 21

Something interesting has happened.  A magazine has started coming to our house.  When the first one came, I assumed it was a sample that was randomly being sent to our address. When the second one came, I took another look at the labeling and realized it was actually being sent directly to ME.
Not knowing who sent it to me, I have no idea if someone thinks I'm a terrible cook and could use some help OR if they think I'm a good cook and could use stretch my skills with some fun new recipes.

They are fun magazines to page through although my family wouldn't know what to think if I served their meals on platefuls with such fine display.  Plus many of the recipes have ingredients that I've never heard of before!

Until I find out who blessed me with this subscription, guess all I can say is "bon appetit!" as I get brave enough to try some new fancy recipes.

Daybooking in May

For May 19

Outside my window.....the clouds are moving in on a spring breeze with temps in the low 60's.

I am thinking.....that parenting young adult children has to be the hardest season of a mother's life.

I am thankful.....for God's wonderful provision of a young woman to work with in ministry who blesses me with her youthful skills (yes, that would mean technology and computer stuff!)

I am running pants with an old t-shirt and a fleece thrown over it to stay warm as the house is still chilly this morning.

I am playing in the living room.

I am wondering.....about my garden.  To plant or not to plant or what to plant.  It's so hard for me to keep up with
as my family grows up and moves away from home, plus my schedule is getting fuller allowing less down time to spend puttering around in my garden.

I am creating.....a list of the seeds I'll need this year in case I do plant veggies.

I am perhaps travel this weekend to visit family if it all works out.

I am still reading....."The Storm Inside" by Sheila Walsh

I am praying.....for clarity and vision for the future.

I am oldest daughter's wedding seven years ago today and all the freshly blooming lilacs we picked that morning for the table centerpieces.

I am be able to survive having my two college sons home for a couple of weeks.  They can be a great help, but they eat a lot and stay up real late(!)  lol

On my the difficulty of disciplining older children and how best to enforce consequences when they make bad choices.

From the learning rooms.....we are almost completely done with all of our schoolwork! Yippeeeeee!

I am learning....that the most valuable lessons come from the most difficult situations.

Noticing that.....the woods is full of yellows, oranges, and reds from the leaf buds of all the different bushes and trees.

I am looking forward to.....eating healthier with the warmer weather that provides fresh fruits and vegetables.

Pondering these words....."Wrong is wrong, even if everyone is doing it.  Right is right, even if no one is doing it." ~ Sally Clarkson

From the kitchen.....are more fresh smoothies.  How I love our Nutribullet!

Around the house....are stacks of things that came home from college. It'll be nice when they head out to their summer jobs and take the bulk of this stuff with them.

One of my favorite things.....are hearing my kids laughing together.

A few plans for the rest of the week.....include some home cleaning projects today, a couple long days of work, and hopefully some traveling at the end of the week.

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you....
Lily of the valley - I'm not sure I've ever looked at them up close as they come through the ground to see how red the first stems are.  I can't wait until they fill out and I can smell the scent of those little white bell shaped flowers!

Thank you for stopping and visiting my daybook on this day. If you'd like to visit others who are participating in the May daybook or write a journal yourself, please stop over at Peggy's at Simple Woman's Daybook

it's still best

The real
things haven't
It is still
best to be
honest and
to make
the most
of what
we have;
to be happy
and have
when things
go wrong.
~Laura Ingalls Wilder

Just my thoughts for today after a long week!  Looking forward to a day of rest tomorrow and enjoying simple pleasures.

a hint of yellow

There was just a small hint of yellow along the driveway fence when I arrived home at suppertime tonight.  A quick trip out the door after eating to take a couple pictures of the first flowers to blossom this spring - daffodils!  A quick trip back in the door after taking a couple of pictures as it's still unseasonably cool here with a few lingering roadside snowbanks slowly melting away.

My heart continues to long for warmth and sunshine and SPRING!

Is it spring at your house?

favorite grateful in May

'Tis Friday and the challenge of five minute writing.  Write for five minutes.  No editing.  Post it at Five Minute Friday  Check out the post linked before yours and be sure to leave a word of encouragement behind.  The word for today is GRATEFUL. Ready!  Set!  Go!

As Mothers Day is almost here, there's one thing I am so grateful that I did throughout the years - stayed home with my children.   What a blessing it has been to get to know them on so many levels as I've watched them grow from newborns who snuggle while nursing to young adults starting their own families.

Having that time with them has been so valuable in relationship building and brought with it knowledge about parenting that only comes with experience.

Having that time with them has taught me a lot more about God’s character as well as it has more clearly defined His love, faithfulness, forgiveness, mercy, and grace.

Having that time with them has revealed much more about my own character that is perhaps the most humbling part.  How prideful we can be in our mothering *thinking* we are doing what is right and loving, yet realizing much later that perhaps some choices we made can do more harm than good.

How grateful I am that God’s grace is sufficient through the good, the bad, and the ugly throughout the journey of motherhood which incidentally does not end once they leave home.  Once a mother, always a mother!

when God shows up

"You will know God is showing up when He shows up in a way you cannot explain." ~ Tony Evans

YES!  I love when God does this. When there is no other explanation except GOD.   And when He does this ONLY HE GETS THE GLORY!

Looking forward to God showing up in all kinds of circumstances.  How about you?

the merriment of May

Ahhh, the merry month of May has arrived!

The verse for the month goes appropriately with it: "Fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy." ~Job 8:21

The picture makes me smile because it reminds me of the handful of beautiful irises that grow down by our pond.  Of course, our pond is still mostly ice as it slowly thaws out.  And the sound of laughter and shouts of joy aren't quite being heard yet as we still have piles of snow melting all around us with the very slow arrival of spring.  But soon, right?  Soon spring will come?  The sun will return, right?

Looking forward to laughter and shouts of joy when spring really does arrive!

Friday, May 2

no lack of mess

Ahhhh, the first Friday in May!  Time for the weekly writing challenge.  Write for five minutes.  No editing.  Post it.  Link it up at Five Minute Friday where you'll find others who are writing on the same word of the day.  Be sure to visit at least the writer before you leaving a word of encouragement behind. And if there's time, visit several other writers leaving a word of encouragement behind.  The word for today is MESS.  Ready! Set!  Write!

Life with a houseful of kids is filled with around the clock busyness.  It is a continuous moving group of various unique personalities all with their own stuff.

It's a mess.

As a mother you do what you can hoping that each one will feel loved, cared for, provided for, and long with all your heart that not a single one will feel lost in the mess.

And you do it ohhhhhh sooooo imperfectly falling into God's grace over and over and over again.

Then they start growing up, leaving home, and beginning lives of their own with others.  As a mother you watch their relationships and you wonder if they really did feel loved, cared for, provided for, OR did they get lost in the mess?

Tears fall as you realize how ohhhhh sooooo imperfectly you did life through the years as a mother and find yourself falling into God's grace once again.

Yet so thankful to walk through life with all its imperfections learning more and more about God's abundant love for not only myself, but for each one of my family.  So thankful to learn that through His love covering all my imperfections, He's given me a fresh understanding of empathy and compassion allowing me to minister to others.  Not only are His mercies new every single morning, but His grace truly truly truly is sufficient.
