be that tree

Reading a bit out of God's word tonight, I ran across this passage in the middle of the chapter I was reading:

"Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose trust is the LORD.  He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit." ~ Jeremiah 17:7-8

Having written this morning about how not to fear, here was the confirmation tonight of the key ingredient so that you do not fear - TRUST IN THE LORD.  It may feel like the very hardest thing to do at the moment, but He's there.  He isn't going to leave you.  Take a deep breath and trust Him!

fear not

Seriously, this month is busy and flying by!  Time to catch my breath by a little writing this morning.  Write for five minutes. No editing or changing this or that.  Post it.  Link it up at Kate's Five Minute Friday.  Be sure to visit the link before yours to leave behind a word of encouragement.  The word for today is FEAR.  Ready? Set? WRITE!

Years ago I learned an acronym for 'fear' that has stuck with me and I've used  it over and over again:

F - False
E - Evidence
A - Appearing
R - Real

Realize that 99.something of things you fear and worry about never happen.  So when something comes us in your life that makes you feel fear — whether big or little — it's best to address it immediately with a few questions:

What do I fear?

Why do I fear it?

Is it a valid real fear?

What is the worst that could happen?

AND, could I handle the worst that could happen?

We often don't like to look straight into the face of the worst that could happen, do we? However, the reality is that when we know Jesus, we know we have someone who will walk through it with us no matter what it is or how bad it could be. He will never leave us or forsake us.  He will be there.  And that's better than any pinky promise EVER!  Knowing that fact deep down in your heart replaces the fear of the moment with His peace.

Once you've done that, then witnessed a scenario play out involving whatever the fear was, and what you thought may happen didn't even come close to happening, then you'll be glad you addressed the fear quickly and spent more time resting in God's peace.

find the still

"He leads me beside still waters.  He restores my soul." ~ Psalm 23:2b-3a

This struck me as an interesting Scripture for this month. Why?  Because June  is always such a busy month of the year for me.  The outdoors has come alive in green all around with garden and flower planting the main time consumer.  School is wrapping up.  Other outdoor activities become a priority with the increased daylight increasing ALL activities.  It's a go go go kind of month.

Ahhhh!  That is perhaps why we need to more intentionally seek still waters during this month. It's easy to squeeze Him out during a time of packing our schedules to the fullest.  But how important it is to be spiritually refreshed and to have our souls restored in the midst of a busy time.  We need His strength and guidance for our days to follow where He leads because it is so easy for us to go where the world is pulling us which tends to be all over the place as everything looks inviting this time of the year.

Take time to seek the still waters....He's leading you there if you just take a moment to listen!
